Sarah Palin: A Clusterfuck In Many Acts

Despite it having been a scant four days since Palin was announced as McCain’s running mate, the woman is already up to her ass in slung shit. It’s understandable for left-wing pundits to be denouncing her lack of expertise, particularly since their own candidate is often on the recieving of such criticism, but why stop there? Honk your horn if you loooove drama!

First was insinuations that the recently-born Trig Palin was actually Sarah’s grandson rather than her own boy, based loosely on a couple of photos and a few things that seemed to be too odd to be coincidental. This, however, isn’t what’s important.

The important part is that for whatever reason, Palin decided the best way to negate these rumors was not with something like medical records, or even by showing photos that prove otherwise, but rather by saying that the four-month-old baby had to have been expelled by her womb because her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant. Saddle up for a wild ride, buckaroos.

So far, it seems that the right-wing has been respectful of the situation, with some insane yet prominent conservative bloggers defending Bristol for choosing to not have an abortion. Despite that some evangelical Christians have spoken against her assignment based upon the fact that she’s a woman, and women aren’t supposed to lead, there’s been surprisingly little shaming from their side. Why am I calling it a clusterfuck, then?

Self-proclaimed feminists.

I want to state that I don’t think feminists are stupid people. Of course, there are some radical ones who truly are misandrists and will never go out of their way to explain why they think all men are tools of the kyriarchy, and there’s others who go out on limbs to be offended, but that doesn’t represent the whole of the group. That aside, lets get on with it. A few choice quotes from feminist at livejournal:

I couldn’t care less about her daughter and her daughter’s body…until she makes *other* women’s bodies a basis of her political platform

I find it laughable that she’s asking the media to respect her daughter’s privacy.

The very nature of being pro-life is that you have absolutely no respect for another person’s privacy.

If she thinks privacy isn’t a right (as she’s proven) but a privilege, I hope she understands when the media decided to revoke this privilege.

[The way this is playing out is] unfair to Bristol, yes. But when you shame other people’s children for the choices they have made, sometimes the chickens come home to roost in a most uncomfortable manner.

Now, maybe I’m a bad feminist, but isn’t the idea of throwing around ridicule, especially when it comes to women’s bodies, and doubly so when it’s done to “teach someone a lesson”, extremely counterproductive to your ideals? It would be considered disgusting to try and shame a woman for being raped by claiming she deserved it for wearing a short skirt. How, then, is it supposed to be considered acceptable to publicly embarrass a woman for her decisions, regardless of what you think about her views? If you want to attack Palin for supporting abstinence-only education, there’s plenty of data to throw around that doesn’t involve putting a woman’s body on display for attack.

So, please, left-wingers: if you’re going to claim the high moral ground, stop being such shits.

  1. I’m actually surprised there hasn’t been more said from the Republicans about the fact that her daughter is an unwed teenage mother. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with that, but when you have someone who talks about God like Palin does, you’d think someone would be saying “Uh, your daughter broke some of the easier ways to not sin.”

In a way, I have to agree with the Feminists. It isn’t that I think people should maliciously follow the girl and shit, but the fact remains that this’s a woman who is for poking her nose into other peoples’ business.

I was going to post it before I saw Michele doing an article, but Palin also has a history of going abouts trying kinda-sorta to get books banned.

    http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/09/03/republican-vp-choice-sarah-palin-tried-ban-books

When you have someone who is pro-life, tries to get certain books banned, bases their view of homosexual marriage on a personal stance, and apparently can’t tell where the line between personal belief and public service fits in, it becomes a delicious irony when they’re the ones asking for privacy.

We’re supposed to give her dirty laundry room to air out when she’ll fuck over everyone who wants to exercise a freedom she may disagree with? If this was something she’d done, and a innocent girl wasn’t caught in the crossfire, I’d have no issue seeing people make her squirm over it.

  2. She can’t really hate gay people though, she has gay friends! She says so herself!

I don’t particularly like her politics because she seems oblivious on foreign policy and environmental issues, and she’s a member of “Feminists For Life” despite being pro-death penalty and anti-gay marriage. If this was something she had done herself I’d absolutely expect people to drag her through the mud, because for a politician to claim one thing and do another is unacceptable.

And hey, if you chip in I think we can make this “blog about Sarah Palin-related issues week”. I just felt a compulsion to blag about this because it hit stupidity critical mass. :p

  3. Aye, it has. I like how the first two days there was nothing from anyone anywhere, and now there’s a flood. It’s like everyone’s decided on a big public Show and Tell and the theme is “Here’s what Palin’s done wrong.”

Sounds like a plan. Themed weeks are good. Sometimes. But tomorrow…the Verbosifuge needs a rest now. :P

  4. Hmm, Verbosifuge. I like that! [stephen hawking] I might have to steal it! [/stephen hawking]

Has anyone actually taken a moment to count all the revelations and scandals surrounding Sarah Palin, accurate or not? We’ve got to be in the double digits by now. If she wins anything, it’ll be “most controversial vice presidential candidate in history”.

  5. Any truth that she supports Alaskan independence? Or she’s now against the “big bridge to nowhere” she once demanded nearly 400 million dollars for and based her entire governor campaign on?

  6. Markie Mark

Yeah, John. In regard to the AIP, her husband was involved at one point. That’s the story I understand, anyway. As for “the bridge to nowhere,” that’s been covered everywhere from various newspapers to Wikipedia.

Also, congrats on getting cited in a conservative blog, C6. lol

  7. As far as I can tell, she has been associated with but never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party. The associations seem to mostly revolve around her husband being a member, though I’m uncertain if that’s currently true or just in the past. So all we can really say for sure on that front is that she’s not hostile to the party, but at least what I was looking at says she hasn’t openly supported it.

  8. As for the Bridge to Nowhere, looks like there’s some truth to it…

  9. We can’t afford 4 more years of the same. Grampie McSame and Caribu Barbie have got to go!

  10. Heh, Caribou Barbie… I take it you’re a Stephanie Miller fan? Sweet.

  11. Wikipedia :Palin was born into a Catholic family.[193] When she was 4 years old, her family joined the Wasilla Assembly of God, which belongs to a Pentecostal association of churches.[194] Palin attended the Wasilla Assembly of God until age 38. When in Juneau, she attends the Juneau Christian Center.[195] Her current home church is the Wasilla Bible Church, an independent congregation.[196] Palin described herself in an interview as a “Bible-believing” Christian.[193] After the Republican National Convention, the McCain campaign told CNN that Palin “doesn’t consider herself Pentecostal.”[197
