Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 Casting Is Hilariously Awesome

2008 August 22

If you’re at all familiar with the long-running Command & Conquer series of real-time strategy games, you probably already know many of the things the franchise is best known for. For instance, along with its direct predecessor Dune, C&C helped pioneer the genre which competing games like Warcraft would later bring into the mainstream. It also featured a kickass buttrock soundtrack, trash-talking marine units (”I’ve got a present for ya!”) and occasional tangents into wacky alternate reality Cold War scenarios under the Red Alert aegis.

However, by far one of the most memorable hallmarks of the Command & Conquer games is the use of real actors in the numerous story scenes and mission briefings. While other games in the mid-90s featured similar FMV dreck so bad it was often worthy of a Mystery Science Theater 3000 special, C&C succeeded where almost everyone else failed by gunning as hard for the fromagé as possible, rather than putting up the same weak facades of serious drama.

Part of this success has come to fruition thanks to the developer’s choice of actors, a trend which has been taken to hilariously ridiculous heights since Electronic Arts revived the franchise last year. As the official C&C: Red Alert 3 casting trailer reveals, EA is not resting on their laurels with this latest installment of the series, bringing cult icon Tim Curry, former playmate Jenny McCarthy, MMA fighters Gina Carano and Randy Couture, and Star Trek luminary George Takei into the fold.

Even without Command & Conquer 3’s Micheal Ironside, will there be any scenery left to chew? Hit the jump for the YouTube trailer if HD video isn’t your thing.
