Bruce Willis Starring in Kane & Lynch Adaption?

Honestly, despite having never played the game, the idea of somebody – anybody – bothering to bring the story of Kane & Lynch to the big screen seems like a wholly baffling concept. Why? Well, it didn’t really sell terribly well, for starters. Then there’s the equally lukewarm reception from critics and gamers alike. Then there’s the little issue of plot, which is to say, “where is it?”

“Wait a second, Del!” you say, “that didn’t exactly stop Uwe Boll from making a movie based on Dungeon Siege, did it? And you could write everything notable about that glorified screensaver on a cafe napkin!” True, my perceptive reader. However, Uwe Boll is a special kind of nutcase – perhaps even a genius in his own bizarre way – the hallmarks of which aren’t reaching out and grabbing me in this case. No, for some reason, somebody out there thinks this will actually work.

Bruce Willis is in negotiations to star in Lionsgate’s Kane & Lynch, a video-game adaptation that veteran stunt coordinator and second-unit director Simon Crane will helm, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The game was developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive. Kyle Ward wrote the screenplay. The movie is eying a fall start, with a hunt now on to find an actor to play Lynch.

I’ll give them this: Willis is a solid casting choice, but does he really need this kind of slum work? Everybody’s gotta eat, I suppose. But anyone who believes this movie will do anything other than bomb is out of their minds.

Insert not-quite-topical Jeff Gerstmann joke here.

I think this will come down to who the writer(s) and director are of this thing. Tho frankly most vg adaptations suck balls, since there IS NO fan base to worry about offending by *snick*changing*snig*the*sniggle*plot HAHAHAHAHA… Sorry, you basically avoid one of the big pitfalls of most vg to movie adaptations. If (and yes this is a big “if”) the right people made this film, it could be awesome. You’d basically have to have a plot that has very little to do with the game beyond the basic premise and just craft a decent story with some good action sequences and you’d have a hit. But the chances of this being done in any other way than a haphazard one is pretty slim. While casting Bruce Willis would seem like a step in the right direction, it could also mean that the casting director things this is going to be a video game version of Die Hard or something. It could be a sign of genius or a sign of laziness is what I”m saying.
